North Carolina Marriages, 1827-1900
Description (from source site)
The first permanent English settlers in North Carolina were Virginians who heard reports of fertile bottom lands, abundant timber resources, and an excellent climate. This database is an index to marriage records that took place in North Carolina between 1842 and 1900. This update adds marriage records from Granville, Guilford, Halifax, New Hanover, and Orange counties to those of Ashe, Bertie, Catawba, Currituck, Davidson, Davie, McDowell, Mecklenburg, Randolph, Rowan, Transylvania, Union, Wayne, Wilkes, and Yadkin counties. Most North Carolina marriages were not recorded before 1868. After 1868, the register of deeds in each county was given the task of issuing marriage licenses. Many of these records are from marriage bonds.
