Located in central Indiana, just west of Indianapolis, Montgomery County was home to over 28,000 residents in 1920. Of these people, nearly 20% lived and worked on farms in the county. This database is a directory of farmers, hired hands, tenants and farm owners in the county in 1920 and lists valuable information on persons associated with each farm. In addition to providing the farmer's name, researchers will find his wife's name, children's names, township information, size of farm, and the time residence in the county. In some cases, this directory can be more informative than federal census records because it includes the wife's maiden name and how long they had lived in the area. To those seeking farming ancestors from central Indiana, this can be an illuminating database for some 3500 individuals.
