Gardiner, Maine, is located in Kenebec County. The earliest beginnings in the history of Gardiner may be said to date back to the year 1607, when a party of Englishmen made an unsuccessful attempt to colonize at the mouth of the Kennebec River. Gardiner was founded, in 1754. The Kennebec River flows through the town. The records in this database include birth and death records from about 1790 - 1892. There are a total of over 10,000 entries in this database. These entries include first, middle, and last names, as well as maiden name in brackets (-). They include spouse's names and/or parents's name. In the birth records, date of birth and place of birth other than Belfast is given. In some cases baptismal dates are given. In a few cases, ages at baptism are given. In the death records, cause of death, date of death and place of death other than Belfast and age at death is given. In both birth data and death data, as there are several sources for the information, variants of data are in brackets (-). This would include dates and names, and in death records, ages. The sources include church, county, graveyard, and town records along with over 200 private sources. There are several men listed as dying during the Civil War. The database gives places of these deaths, and, in some cases, the actual battle.
