Located one mile above the falls of the Ohio River, Louisville, Kentucky was destined to become one of the five largest cities in the country at its founding. In 1832, the population of Louisville was 10,341. Staples of the city's economic development included tobacco, hemp, livestock, distilling, commercial sales, warehousing, cement production, and steamboats. This database contains the names of more than 2,200 heads of families and households as they were listed in the 1832 Louisville Directory. It includes each resident's name, occupation, and address.
