Description (from source site)
1947 Leavenworth Obituaries
Leavenworth is the First City of Kansas and was a gateway to the West. It is adjacent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas which was settled 1827 and was a hot bed of action and violence during the border troubles from 1854 with the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Bill which allowed Kansas to enter as a "Free" State. Many military regiments were formed and mustered in an out at Fort Leavenworth during the Civil War and many famous military leaders of both the North and South were stationed here prior to, during and after the Civil War.
Index was compiled by Lula Dillon from the microfilm copies of the Leavenworth Times located at the Leavenworth Public Library, Leavenworth, Kansas.
