Fort Winnebago, Wisconsin, 1835

Description (from source site)
For Juliette Kinze the Wisconsin frontier of the early nineteenth century was foreign and intimidating. This database is a reprint of her account living at Fort Winnebago in the early 1830s. It provides descriptions of local customs, folklore, economic practices, medical treatments, and social hierarchies. These descriptions include white settlers, Native Americans, fur traders, missionaries, soldiers, and African-Americans. Additionally, it contains stories of settlers captured by Indians.
