Moving from Chicago to California in 1870, Caroline Churchill traveled extensively throughout the state from 1870 to 1873. This database is a collection of letters penned by her about her experiences in the West. Originally published in 1874, it contains valuable descriptions of San Jose, San Francisco, Santa Rosa, and Los Angeles. She also included accounts of her travels to Reno, Carson City, and Virginia City, Nevada. For researchers trying to understand some of the larger cities of the region in the 1870s, this can be an informative database.
