One of the most recognized and respected American newspapers, the New York Times has been in circulation for over one hundred years. This database is a collection of obituaries and marriage notices from the newspaper in 1889. Each record provides the individual's name, age or birth date, and issue date of the entry. In many cases, names of parents, spouse, and children are given along with the page number on which the obituary originally appeared. In addition to providing information on New York City residents, many out of town and foreign marriages and obituaries are included. It contains the names of about twelve thousand persons.
