A member of the New York Historical Society, William Darby journeyed from New York City to Detroit in 1818. This database is a collection of letters that chronicle that trip to the Midwest. It provides helpful descriptions of many cities through which Darby traveled, including Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Cleveland and Detroit. Researcher will also find a detailed commentary on the St. Lawrence River and associated commercial traffic, as well as development on both sides of the river. For researchers of early Michigan, Ohio, and western New York, this database can be a useful source of information.
