This database contains more than 5,300 immigrant names. Originally published
by the National Archives as Copies of Lists of Passengers Arriving at Miscellaneous
Ports on the Atlantic and Gulf Coast and Ports on the Great Lakes, 1820-63,
the database includes passenger lists from the following ports (dates for each
port in brackets):
Charleston, South Carolina (1820-29)
Darien, Georgia (1823-25)
Dighton, Maine (1820-36)
East Rover, Virginia (1830)
Edenton, North Carolina (1820)
Edgartown, Maine (1820-70)
Fairfield, Connecticut (1820-21)
Fall River, Massachusetts (1837-65)
Frenchman's Bay, Maine (1821-27)
The United States has admitted more immigrants than any other nation. No official
federal records were made for the influx of foreign peoples to the United States
before 1820, but the number of immigrants arriving between 1776 and 1820 has
been estimated at 250,000.
