Durham County, Ontario Census, 1861
Description (from source site)
Home to some of the older settlements in Ontario, the County of Durham has been the home to hundreds of thousands of people since the early 19th Century. In 1861 there were 8 divisions of the county. These were the townships of Bowmanville, Cartwright, Cavan, Clarke Darlington, Hope, Manvers, and Newcastle, and the town of Port Hope. This database is a census index for the county at that time. A wealth of information is provided here, including the name of resident, occupation, birthplace, age, sex, marital status, and microfilm reference. With over 38,000 entries, this can be an extremely helpful collection for researchers of Canadian ancestors.
