Riley County, Kansas is situated approximately 100 miles west of Kansas City. Adjacent counties are Geary, Wabaunsee, Clay, Pottawatomie, and Washington. During 1998-99, newspapers in Pottawatomie and Riley counties printed approximately 2,200 obituaries. This database can serve as an index to those deceased persons. It indexes the following Riley or Pottawatomie County newspapers: Manhattan Mercury, Wamego Times, and Westmoreland Recorder.

Imogene Farley of the Riley County Genealogical Society in Manhattan, Kansas clipped the obituaries from area newspapers and compiled them into book form for the Riley County Genealogical Society library. Janeice Crosson indexed them. This database indexes each deceased person's date and place of birth, date and place of death, parents, and spouse(s) from two of the books, 1998 and 1999. There are 2,215 records.
