Susquehanna County, Silver Lake Township, Pennsylvania, 1878 -79 tax rolls

Description (from source site)
Silver Lake Township is located in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. In the 1870s, it was a small community of mostly immigrant Irish farmers. Many of these families have in large part moved out of the area. This database includes all of the personal tax records of Thomas Hawley Jr., Tax Collector Silver Lake 1878-79. The tax collectors kept one set of records in official leather bound books, which were later copied to a second set held at the county court house in Montrose, Pa. Records include: county and state tax, town tax, school tax, special road tax, poor tax, and dog tax for 1878 and county and state tax, poor tax, and dog tax for 1879. Only one person paid a state in 1878 and none in 1879. No one paid taxes on more than one dog. These records provide a listing of name, year, and type of tax paid for all heads of households and adult males living in Silver Lake during 1878-79. This is a complete list of names on the tax rolls regardless if they paid or not. Persons that are not home are noted in the records. The names are listed exactly as they appear on the records. Of special interest may be the numerous variant spellings of the surnames for the same families, including the tax collector.
