Description (from source site)
With the expansion of the United States increasing numbers of Native Americans found themselves administered by Indian agents. Reports written by these agents can be of great value to genealogists. This database is a report filed by Charles Painter, an agent of the Indian Rights Association. Traveling from his office in Philadelphia, Painter visited Indian settlements and reservations at Cohuilla, San Ysabel, Mesa Grande, Captain Grande, and San Jacinto. His report includes information regarding incursions on Native American lands and schools in the San Fernando area and legal action on their behalf. For those seeking to understand the lives of Native Americans in California, this database can provide a white man's perspective.
