A linguist, translator, and folklorist, Jeremiah Curtin was born to an Irish Catholic family living on a farm in Greenfield, Wisconsin in 1835. This database is a collection of his memoirs, originally published in 1940. It contains detailed descriptions of his boyhood, education at Harvard in the 1860s, and travels to St. Petersburg, Russia. Additionally, it provides his account of working with Cassius Clay, journeying to the Caucasus, and his marriage to Alma Cardell in 1872. For researchers of this interesting American, this narrative can be informative and insightful.
