Edward S. Parkinson, California Summer, 1892
Description (from source site)
Claimed for Spain by conquistadors in the 16th Century and transferred to Mexico nearly 300 years later, California became a part of the United States at the conclusion of the Mexican-American War. This database is a first hand narrative of one man's travels through the state of California and surrounding areas and sheds light on the area before the turn of the century. It is the first in a series, provided by the Library of Congress, written from first hand accounts describing the land and the people of this important state. Edward S. Parkinson, a traveler from New Jersey, describes his visits to northern Mexico, California, Alaska and what later became Yellowstone Park. For patrons of Ancestry.com this work has a number of important uses. It contains about 100 names of persons Parkinson met in his journey. For those seeking to understand the larger context in which their ancestors lived, this can illuminate important aspects of that culture.
