Cartwright 1901, Ontario census
Cartwright township was created in 1816 as part of Durham County. In 1974, it
became part of the municipal township of Scugog in the regional municipality of
Durham. Cartwright was named for Richard John Cartwright. Richard John Cartwright
was a merchant, miller, and shipbuilder in Kingston, where he settled in 1785
from his birthplace at Albany, N. Y. This database has over 1750 entries of residents
in the census sub-district of Cartwright (b) in the census district of Durham
West (#56) in 1901. This database contains the full names, relationship to the
head of the household, full date of birth, and birthplace as well as the year
of immigration to Canada (if not Canadian by birth). The database also includes
the National Archives film number, division number, page and family number to
aid researchers in obtaining a copy of the actual record, if desired.
Newcastle 1901, Ontario census
Newcastle was founded in 1833. It was first known as Crandell's Corners, after
the innkeeper Stephen Crandell. Newcastle later received its name from Newcastle
District, which existed from 1798 to 1850. The Newcastle and Bond Head districts
were joined as Newcastle in 1851, and the village was incorporated in 1857. In
1974, it was united with the town of Bowmanville, and the townships of Clarke
and Darlington and the police village of Oronto, to form the town of Newcastle.
The former village was renamed Newcastle Village in 1985, to distinguish it from
the town. This database has over 600 entries of residents in the census sub-district
of Newcastle (e) in the census district of Durham West (#56) in 1901. This database
